Diver Qualifications

Since our dives involve performing tasks, we work with divers who are confident in their buoyancy control and trim and are comfortable in a variety of settings.

Our excursions require an application and vetting process and require divers to obtain dive insurance from DAN or other similar provider.

Team & Project Focus

We are honored to be able to participate as citizen scientists with established conservation organizations and will respect their time with us by staying focused on the work at hand.

Our divers' top priority is to enjoy learning about marine conservation efforts, to experience task-oriented team diving, and to utilize their skills to make a positive impact on both the group and the organizations with which we are working.

The Perfect Buddy
Has the 3 "E's"

Experience

Divers should have a minimum level of Advanced Open Water  certification through an organization such as PADI, SSI, NAUI, etc., with at least 50 dives post certification.

GUE Fundamentals (rec or tech pass) certification is preferred but not required. The number of dives past this certification is unimportant.

Nitrox or mixed gas certification is preferred, but may not be necessary for every dive.

Technical certifications are fantastic, although technical profiles and gear may not be necessary.

We appreciate divers with specialty training and experience as valuable members of the team.

Experience with deep dives, currents, poor visibility, on wrecks, cavern or overhead environments may also helpful for certain projects.

Diver requirements may exceed these if the conditions require it. Additional requirements and recommendations will be addressed on a per project basis.

Equipment

Though we will connect with local dive shops and operators where you may be able to purchase or rent some gear, we expect that divers on our excursions will travel with their own equipment.

Divers should be comfortable carrying, donning/doffing, loading/unloading, inspecting, adjusting and using their own equipment. They should also be able to do a pre-dive checklist for their buddy.

Part of your "equipment" is a team oriented attitude. Our dives are more than recreational dives. You may not always be paired with the person you came with for every dive.

Members of the group will maintain a high level of situational awareness for themselves and others. Everyone is expected to readily assist other group members when requested or when the situation requires.

Ego-checking

On our excursions, we focus on bonding as a group. We will dive as a team where each member has a role. We will support the success and safety of the team and its individual members.

We hope that our excursions are places to build lasting relationships and create unforgettable positive experiences with like-minded people. The group will get to know each other well through time spent preparing to dive, diving, and debriefing. Our post-dive experiences will help us grow as we share accommodations, meals and other fun times together.

Since we all will be advanced divers, and will have a purpose to accomplish, you will not feel like you are on the average recreational dive boat, where you would face a wide variety of people with disparate desires, abilities and goals.

We want every member of our small teams to feel respected and included. Though we encourage sharing stories, we don't want to make uncomfortable comparisons and comments regarding the number of dives, air consumption, knowledge, experience, etc.
